  • Oak Forest, located north of Downtown just outside the 610 Loop, was established in 1947 by Oak Forest Realty Corporation, owned by Frank Sharp, a developer who would later establish the Sharpstown area. Almost all of the first houses were sold to World War II veterans for $8K to $10K. Oak Forest was annexed by Houston in 1949. Because a fair amount of the area was reserved for commercial development, there were services to support the influx of residents. 

    In the early 2000s, Oak Forest started to attract artistic types who wanted start families. With the many grocery stores cleaners and available service, Oak Forest it a self-sustaining environment attractive to those who moved there It grew steadily from then. 

    In 2013, Houstonia Magazine called it one of the 25 hottest neighborhoods in Houston and compared it to West University and Bellaire.
