Malinda Edwards de Mata is General Counsel for Haras Enterprises, which includes Haras Dos Cavaleiros and Carnan Properties, as well as a unique variety of other business ventures.
Malinda returned to Texas and joined the Haras team after serving as General Counsel for Mulberry Ventures, a real estate investment company located in Columbus, Georgia. Prior to that Malinda was an attorney with The Hudgins Law Firm in Houston, Texas. An accomplished trial lawyer, Malinda’s practice has included defending complex multi-party commercial litigation claims, as well as representing individual clients in matters involving construction-defect, personal injury, contract disputes, insurance defense, product and premises liability, equine law, and oil and gas litigation.
Daughter of the late Marion M. Edwards, a United Methodist Bishop, Malinda was born in Macon, Georgia, and grew up in South Georgia. She earned her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1987. Malinda moved to Houston, Texas, in 1994. A second-career lawyer, she earned her law degree from South Texas College of Law in 2004. Malinda is an avid equestrian with a passion for dressage. She is currently training and showing her Lusitano stallion, Damasco DC. As a member of the board of directors of WEIAUSA, Malinda is also actively involved in promoting the sport of working equitation in the United States.
